Unlike anything I have seen before, that is how I would describe my weekend in Morocco. This trip allowed me to cross off many things on my bucket list like go to Africa! As Morocco was the first Islamic country I have been to, it was interesting to see the differences in cultures! There was also kittens everywhere so this whole trip was amazing!
Getting to Morocco!
We took a ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar to Morocco. Although Spain is still controlling a small area in the Moroccan northern area, we did not see true Morocco until passing the border. At the border, it took our bus about an hour to clear customs to make our way into Morocco!

Goodbye Europe! |
Tetouan, Asilah, & Chefchaouen
The three cities I visited in my schools trip to Morocco were beautiful in each their own way. Tetouan is an up in coming city with a lot of tourism. Asilah is in-between with tourist but a lot more locals. Chefchaouen is also in-between with traditional and tourism, up high in the mountains with beautiful blue walls, why wouldn't people want to visit?! In my time in these cities, I got to ride a camel, speak to Moroccan peers, eat traditional food, and see the hardships of a third world country. My classmates and I found that Moroccans are extremely friendly, always saying hi and welcome to Morocco! It was great to see the hospitality they hold for American. Unfortunately, in a third world country, there is many who would stop at nothing to get out of a situation that they are in. Meaning many would try to cross the border hoping to get to Europe to start a new life. As my bus was crossing the border, we saw many children trying to get under our bus to make it through to Spain. This is a sad reality that I had never seen or experienced before.
Would I go back?
Yes, I would go back in a heartbeat! Besides all the fun times I had, this weekend brought me the realization of how lucky I am to have a U.S. passport as well as the ability to move across countries easily. Besides going to Chile for seven weeks in the summer of 2015, I have never been to another third world country. Although in some moments Morocco did not seem like a third world country! Aside from not being able to drink the water, I will be back to this country sooner or later!
