Her Conference 2017

Shorewood Library!
A goal of mine for the summer of 2017 is to read 12 books. At first, it seems like a stretch with having two jobs and planning for the fall semester, but to date, I am on my eighth book! One of the books I read was by Gretchen Carlson. Her book, "Getting Real", had so much power and strength that one could not simply walk away unchanged. After I finished reading her book, it came acrossed my Instagram feed, there was going to be conference that Carlson would be a keynote speaker at! I started looking into it, the conference is for Her Campus, which is the #1 new-media brand for the empowered college women written by college journalists. I became aware of Her Campus with a new chapter forming at my university last semester. Although I have not been involved in the organization on campus, the conference is open to the public as well.

Her Conference is said to be the leading career development conference for college women, so how could I not attend?! With Gretchen Carlson as a Keynote speaker and the agenda bursting with great networking, it was a no-brainer decision. What made this decision even sweeter is that my extremely good friend from high school is interning at the United Nations currently! Without a thought I texted her asking if she would want to go with me on this two-day conference. And just like that, I booked my flight and the month flew by until it was Her Conference weekend!

The Her Conference website describes the conference as "Focused on media, journalism, marketing, PR, entrepreneurship, social impact, tech, leadership and more, Her Conference is two days of powerful programming, amazing sway, giveaways, interactive activities, and food." In the last weeks and months, I have been asking myself what career choice I would want to follow. With my preparations for Spain and an internship, this question would not go away. I've read about and have been told that you should have a career or job that you spend most of your time doing. What would that be for a millennial college student?! You guessed it, social media! I am always on social media, like every other person I know. This conference can and will teach me more about using my social media for more than checking up on friends and family. As well as prep me for what my internship in Spain will entail, with its main focus on social media.

I can't wait to see what this weekend holds!
